Jay and I met in April of 2012. It didn’t take long for us to realize what we shared was so rare and special, and we started a journey together that has led us to where we are today.
Jay built the most beautiful home in Port Perry for us to share as a family, which included our 3 boys…Tyler, Daniel and Jack. As we were planning our wedding at our new home, we were notified that Jays dad was terminally ill. Jay and I flew to Cape Town, South Africa so I could meet my future father-in-law, and so Jay could say goodbye to his dad. Although the trip was very emotional for Jay, we took the opportunity to visit the home where Jay grew up, and we created memories in South Africa which brought us even closer together. Jay’s dad passed away a few weeks after we returned home. Having to say goodbye to his dad, Jay and I decided to live by the motto “life is too short”.
With encouragement from our family and friends, we started another journey in building a lodge downstairs in our home. With the idea that we would create a self-catered bed and breakfast, we struggled with what to call our lodge/B&B. Nearly a year had gone by since Jay’s dad passed away, and we planned another trip to South Africa to fulfill his dads wishes to scatter some of his ashes in the ocean. We decided to take the opportunity to finish what we started on our first trip to South Africa together, and booked a safari tour at Kruger National Park. While planning our safari trip, we finally thought of the perfect name for our lodge…”Country Lane Lodge Bed and Breakfast“. We decided to Google the name to ensure it wasn’t already used by someone else in Canada. Our search determined that there was only 1 other place in the world with the exact same name. “Country Lane Lodge Bed and Breakfast”, located in Kruger National Park South Africa. With tears in my eyes I told Jay that his dad must have been guiding us through all of this, as it could only be fate that brought us to using the same name as a lodge located where we were planning on visiting weeks later.
We ended up staying our last night of our Africa trip at Country Lane Lodge B&B and told the owners, Di and George our story. With their blessing and appreciation for our story, they thought us using the same name was an excellent idea. If you are not already convinced this was fate, the logo used for Country Lane Lodge B&B in Africa is of a peace dove…the exact same style as Jay has as a tattoo…the only tattoo he has as he has always searched for peace.
We wanted to share our story with you, as our lodge was built and designed with heart and soul…it is a place of tranquility, peace and relaxation. We hope that our guests will feel the same appreciation and heartfelt warmth that we do for our lodge.
